When the temps drop and it’s too cold to be outside, nothing can be better than curling up in bed or on the couch with the coziest of blankets and a warm beverage, watching holiday movies. Whether you intend to enjoy these seasonal films alone, with a friend or significant other, or with your family, a movie is incomplete without a snack or two. Whatever movie or movies you have on your queue, there’s a festive snack pairing for each.
Funny Movies:
Elf – If you’re watching Elf this Holiday season, it is only appropriate to try Buddy’s iconic meal of spaghetti and maple syrup, but let’s be honest, no one is going to eat that. My suggestion is simple, delicious, and on theme with this cute movie. Make Oreo balls dipped in white vanilla candy coating for delicious snowballs from the snowball fight scene! Easy, delicious, and festive!
National Lampoons A Christmas Vacation – Whether you have the famous clear reindeer glass or not, this movie has to be watched while sipping on some (preferably spiked!) eggnog. Pair that sipping with sugar cookies and candy canes for the ultimate Christmas snack.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas – a cute, simple themed snack that pairs perfectly with this movie is a Christmas Crack mix! Since the Grinch eats trash, it is cute and fitting for those powdered sugar-covered Chex mix recipes that will have you reaching for the snack bowl more often than you laugh at this heartwarming and funny movie.
Classic Movies:
The Polar Express – If you do not drink hot chocolate while watching The Polar Express, you are definitely missing out on simple Christmas magic. A hot chocolate bar with extra marshmallows, chocolate chips, and candy canes for snacking is an ideal and easy ‘snack’ for this Christmas classic.
A Christmas Story – This was a movie that we watched all the time on Christmas day in my family, so it is only right that this classic gets the snack pairing of Christmas cookies and milk. Nothing says Christmas more than that.
Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer – The claymation of this movie exudes the magic and imagination of childhood. With that imagination, red noses must be incorporated into this snack pairing, be it popcorn and pink marshmallows, or popcorn and Hot Tamales.
Non-Christmas, Christmas Movies:
The Nightmare Before Christmas – Some argue that this is a Halloween movie, but Christmas is in the title, so if you are still reminiscing on the Halloween fun, this is the perfect festive movie for you. Scavenge up whatever Halloween candy you still have, or just load up on a variety of candies to cozy up and watch this Halloween/Christmas movie with and enjoy the best of both holidays.
Edward Scissor Hands – I will argue that this is a Christmas movie on my deathbed if I must. The message of acceptance and the importance of love for those in your family and community is also fitting for this holiday season. For this different Christmas movie choice, cotton candy is the ultimate snack for this film. The whimsical essence of this movie is reflected in cotton candy, and can even mimic the Barbershop scene if you pull your piece off the cotton candy fast, like how Edward cuts the ladies’ hair.
Krampus – What’s a scary movie without the movie classics! Pop the popcorn, with extra butter, and crack a Coke-a-cola for this Christmas Horror movie based on a German tradition of Santa’s evil counterpart, Krampus.
