With the first week of the year already at an end, resolutions are hopefully still strong in practice. Or maybe, you’re like me and your resolutions started this week. No matter your progress, it can be hard to start or break habits. One thing that has helped me stay mindful of my yearly goals is a vision board. Vision boards can be a creative and fun way to keep your goals at the forefront of your mind, while not being bombarded by notifications or reminders.
I have both a physical and digital vision board to help me stay mentally focused on my goals. My digital vision board is the lock screen on my phone and laptop, and my physical one is a printed poster that sits above my mirror so I look at it while I am getting ready for the day. These simple, and visually aesthetic reminders can help subconsciously keep you on track to reaching your goals this year!
Whether you want to create a physical or digital vision board, the first step is the same- create a list of goals or habits you wish to accomplish this year. For example, one of my resolutions is to stick to a consistent yoga regimen. Since this is a major goal of mine this year, I found an image that fits my personal aesthetic of a girl doing yoga for my vision board. Find one to two images that correlate with each goal to start. These images can be quotes, influences, magazine images, or personal images! Once you have your images selected, decide if you want to create your vision board digitally or physically.
If you’re wanting to create a digital vision board, I recommend using Canva to help create your design. They offer layering features, texts, the ability to cut out items, and so much more to help you achieve the aesthetic you’re looking for. Also, if you create a digital vision board, you can share it to all your devices, and have it printed out as a poster at Walgreens or a similar place.
If you want to turn this into a craft night, may I suggest the Barbie movie, pasta, and a glass of wine to make it complete? Really, you will need to print the pictures you selected and saved and have them printed. My personal favorite printing company is FreePrints, which gives you 70 free pictures to print a month, and all you pay for is shipping. This does take a week for your images to reach you, but can be cheaper than Walgreens. You could also buy magazines and cut images and words out of them, but that can cost more than needed and not give you the exact results you want, feel free to try to incorporate some! Once you have your images, get a poster board or canvas, some glue, tape, or modpodge to create your beautiful vision board. Play around with the layout and once you are happy with the results, start creating!
Hang or display your vision board wherever you feel you will get the best results from it, and admire your beautiful work each day. 2024 is your year!
